Nokia's future plans currently - except for the entry that
is going to launch an affordable 5G handset in 2020.
There is a new report which suggests that Nokia will not
update its flagship phone in later years. Whether this delay, or something that
Nokia had always planned, is not known, but it has been suggested that this is
because Nokia wants to use the latest Snapdragon 865 hardware.
When Nokia announced the Nokia 9 PureView, the phone sat on
the older Snapdragon 945 hardware instead of using the Snapdragon 855 on which
other major phones were launching. This immediately set it at the disadvantage
of a special letter - no one wants to buy something they know is already out of
date. Nokia said the reason for this was the development time required to get
the complex camera system working with the hardware - and that it wanted to
launch the phone rather than delay it.
In July 2019, it was rumoured that Nokia was going to update
the Nokia 9 with Snapdragon 855 - something that never happened. After the
handset received mixed reviews, it would make sense that Nokia wanted to do
everything to give its flagship the best chance.
This update has previously been called Nokia 9.1 and
suggests that Nokia will jump straight instead of Nokia 9.2, which probably
seems unnecessary. However, the time will come to an end with the IFA 2020
launch, and even then this phone will fall into the hands of global media and
will be placed on the world stage.
There is very little information at the moment and we have
nothing to verify the details of this tweet - but Nokia's recent communication
is all about affordable 5G phones - and we at Nokia MWC 2020 as the focus of
attention looking forward to seeing you.
